Foreword

The year of Celebrate Saskatchewan prodded many communities, including our own, to some serious thought concerning the preservation of the history of our area.

At a meeting in August, 1980, it was discussed and all agreed that the information and histories of many of the school districts in this area, which had been collected in conjunction with Celebrate Saskatchewan, “not be let go to waste”. The history eventually was to include some seventeen school districts, as well as Avonlea, Claybank and Hearne.

Our hills, bad lands, creeks and treed areas, the long level reaches that have become fertile grain-fields all have contributed to our colorful and exciting history. The people with origins reaching back to Europe and other countries have contributed no less.

For readers now and those of future generations, as you peruse “Arrowheads to Wheatfields”, the committee hopes that it has captured a little of this excitement and color, which is our heritage.
